By clicking on the second sign on the top right, where if you hover it says “Create new pages for the site”, you can see all the available types of pages. The fastest way to publish a page is by using the type “Page”. There you will enter a blank page where you have three sections: Page Header, Empty Content Block, and Page Footer.

The Page Header section is usually used for a hero image depending on the scope of the page and the content. The Empty Content Block is an object that is going to be rendered when the page is published, and inside it you can add some normal text or HTML elements. The Page Footer is empty and it is not going to be rendered; you can add blocks you desire by clicking on it and then choosing Add Block.

To add a new block, you either click on the place where you desire it to be added and click Add Block, as described for the Page Footer, or you click on the Add (+) sign on the top left and drag and drop it wherever you wish. Experiment with all the blocks to see what they offer.

Once you open the Add Content Banner, you can see that there is a dropdown list under blocks. This is very useful. It offers 3 extra options apart from the built-in blocks. The options are:

  • Blocks: the Concrete5 blocks
  • Clipboard: temporarily stores blocks that have been copied or cut so they can be easily reused across different areas or pages without needing to recreate them each time.
  • Stacks: are reusable collections of blocks that can be placed in multiple locations and updated so that any change made to the stack is automatically seen everywhere it is used. For example, we use this for the preprints.
  • Containers: are structural wrappers that group multiple blocks together within a defined layout. They allow for better control over positioning and styling of the content and ensure that the content is not going to break on different screen sizes. It is very flexible and recommended.

In Concrete5 you can only edit content when you are in Edit Mode. To enter Edit Mode you click on the “Edit” button on the top toolbar. When you are not in Edit Mode, you are just viewing the page as a normal user and you cannot make any changes. Make sure you are always in Edit Mode before trying to add or modify blocks.

When you make changes to a page, they are not immediately visible to everyone. By clicking “Save Changes” you store your progress, but the page is not yet published. To make the changes visible on the live website, you need to click “Publish Page” or you can also use “Save changes“ to see how the page will look and then it will give the option to approve the changes and publish them.
