# Conversten


[Conversten](https://conversten.letruks2.unige.ch) is a tool that allows converting a critical edition or translation into TEI XML.

## Main Screen

The main screen displays a list of converted files, and a button to add upload files.

Two things to point out:

1 - There's a button to **give feedback** on the conversion. This is very valuable for our team to improve the tool.

2 - We can change the conversion parameters at any time by clicking the "re-convert" button.

Clicking on the title of any of the editions takes us to an online preview

Here we can review the converted document, and in particular inspect the _apparatus criticus_ to see if it matches our expectations.

Again, there's a **feedback button** that allows you to comment on errors, desiderata, and improvements
## Importing a docx

When uploading a file we choose between "critical edition" and "translation"

Conversten will try to automatically understand the structure, but we can help it by making sure:

1 - That the title and author are correct (we can correct the autodetected one)
2 - (optional) we can remove the title and author from the body of the text, since it's already specified in the step before. If in doubt leave to zero.
3 - For critical editions, we can help Conversten by manually completing the list of witness if there are any missing.

4 - For translations, we can enter the language of the translation columns if it's not detected automatically. We can also specify if we want the translations to be in a column in the same page as the original text, or in the page opposite the original text.
